THE KROHNE SPRING HOUSE
In 1889 Charles O. Krohne emigrated from Sweden and found work in Livingston Montana as a machinist for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He built the sandstone block spring house over the well on the rear of the small clapboard house which is said to be the only remaining structure of its type in Livingston. The spring house provided the family with refrigeration. In 2005 the spring house was acquired by local craftsman/builder Joe Franck. From 2006-2011 Mr. Franck completely remodeled the home down to the studs and built an addition.
The rich stucco exterior is trimmed with cedar siding and is graced by one of the most beautifully landscaped yards in downtown Livingston. Most of the corner lot is fenced and shaded with mature trees and shrubs. Three big beautiful Ash trees have been carefully maintained and add considerable beauty to the yard & garden. The side yard is protected with a privacy wall and includes a large stone patio area, a pergola, beautiful flower beds and mature trees. A large 2-car heated attached garage has heat, hand plastered walls, laundry room and plenty of storage.
Full of character, charm and amenities, the interior is finished with hand applied pigmented plaster, wood trim, hardwood and tile floors, custom lighting, spacious closets and a forced air furnace with heat pump which also cools the house.
The original Krohne Spring House is integrated into the lovely main floor master suite which includes a dressing area, jet tub, tiled shower and walk-in closet.
A cook’s kitchen outfitted with a double-drawer Subzero refrigerator, a refurbished O’Keefe & Merritt gas range, Bosch dishwasher, concrete counter tops, plenty of work space and a pantry with access to the stone patio anchors the main floor.
Off the kitchen, you will find a living room, dining area with a Tulikivi wood stove.
The addition above the garage includes 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 full baths.
