Property Description
This wonderful Eco Friendly mountain cabin near Yellowstone National Park is located in the renowned Tom Miner Basin area of Paradise Valley above the Yellowstone River. Access to the Yellowstone River and NFS land is nearby. The 20 acres was once the site of an old ski hill built by locals in late 1950’s. The cabin is built on a natural occurring bench that had been cleared for the ski run. At the bottom of this hill at Rock Creek Road is an old “way station cabin” built by early settlers as a half way point between Tom Miner Basin and Rock Creek when moving live stock from one grazing area to another. The way station cabin became a warming hut for the skiers and still has the original pot-bellied iron stove and a few old bunk beds.
The beautiful cabin/home designed by Pioneer Log Homes in Victor Montana was built in 2007. The logs came from “standing dead” timber in the Bitterroot Valley and provide excellent wood for log homes. The logs were hand hewn and shipped to this site. The wood floors and wains coating are also of “standing dead” timber and are affectionately known as “ghost wood”. No new trees were cut to provide logs for this cabin.
In the +/- 3400 square foot cabin you will find a large ridge beam that was reclaimed from the Old Faithful Visitor Center in Yellowstone National Park which supports the roof system. The main floor offers an open kitchen, living and dining area with many windows showcasing the landscape and views, a large deck made of Trex Material (95 % recycled materials) which wraps around 3 sides with a large covered area. Two inviting bedrooms and 2 bathrooms complete the main level. A gorgeous wood staircase leads you to the walk out basement where you will find a large family room with extra sleeping areas, a full laundry room, a 3/4 bathroom and an abundance of extra storage. Also accessed from the walk out basement is a one-car garage/shop area.
